World Cup 2022: Ghana vs Uruguay lineup

World Cup 2022: Ghana vs Uruguay lineup

On Friday, Ghana and Uruguay square off in an effort to secure a spot in the World Cup’s knockout rounds.

Both of these teams have a chance to join Portugal, which has already advanced from Group H. Ghana would go to the next round with a win, while Portugal would advance with a draw if they win their match against South Korea.

As for Uruguay, they must win in order to progress, but South Korea also needs to lose for them to do so.

Here’s all you need to know about this one.

Left-back Gideon Mensah was forced to leave the game against South Korea late but afterwards said he was only suffering from cramp, suggesting he should be fine to play again.

Ghana Starting 11 (4-2-3-1): Ati-Zigi; Lamptey, Amartey, Salisu, Mensah; Partey, Abdul Samed; Kudus, A. Ayesw, J. Ayew; Williams

Bench: Danlad, Nurudeen, Aidoo, Djiku, Seidu, Rahman, Odoi, Owusu, Kyereh, Sulemana, Barnieh, Bukari, Fatawu, Sowah, Semenyo

Ronald Araujo, a Barcelona center defender, hasn’t appeared yet and may not appear at all due to a recurrence of the injury that almost caused him to miss the competition in the first place.

Araujo isn’t anticipated to return until the final rounds, but considering Uruguay’s difficulties thus far, he might not have the opportunity.

Uruguay Starting XI (3-5-2): Rochet; Giminez, Coates, Godin; Varela, De Arrascaeta, Valverde, Bentanur, Nunez; Suarez, Cavani

Bench: Muslera, Sosa, Caceres, Vina, Rodriguez, Torreira, Ugarte, De la Cruz, Vecino, Torres, Canobbio, Pellistri, Gomez, Olivera

Uruguay has no other choice but to take the risk. The only thing that will do is a triumph, and even that might not be enough.

In an effort to secure the victory, the South Americans might unleash all three of their strikers—Darwin Nunez, Luis Suarez, and Edinson Cavani—and that kind of firepower might be too much for a Ghanaian team that hasn’t yet demonstrated its defensive prowess.

Despite this, Jordan Ayew is currently at the height of his playmaking prowess and will want to exploit any openings created by Uruguay’s relentless pursuit of the win. Expect goals, but Uruguay should be able to complete the task.
