Witnesses described seeing the gunfight between the police and the attacker. The victims were identified by the authorities, including a senior vice-president of the bank who was an “incredible friend” of the governor.

The police identified the attacker as a 25-year-old portfolio banker, who had no previous contact with the law enforcement. He was broadcasting the shooting online with an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle.

The attacker had recently been told by the bank that he was going to be fired and had written a note describing his plans for the shooting.

The incident is one of at least 146 mass shootings recorded so far in 2023. President Joe Biden called for gun control measures to be passed by Congress in response to the shooting.
