UTAG strike is finally over

UTAG strike is finally over

Following the declaration of strike action by all the Labour Unions in the public universities in Ghana on Monday, 17th October 2022, leadership has engaged the Employer and the National Labour Commission on several occasions to address the impasse.

At a meeting held on Thursday, 8th December 2022, the Employer expressed grave concern about the consequences of the ongoing labour impasse and acknowledged the legitimacy of the grievances of the striking Labour Unions. In effect, the Employer accepted that it unilaterally varied the conditions of service of staff of public universities without recourse to them. The Employer also assured leadership of its preparedness to work expeditiously to resolve all outstanding issues related to conditions of service of the striking Labour Unions.

Having agreed to a roadmap for the payment of outstanding arrears resulting from the unilateral variation of our conditions of service, we wish to announce that the ongoing strike action is suspended indefinitely, effective Tuesday, 13 December 2022

We thank all parties who played diverse roles to address the impasse and urge the Employer to be more proactive when dealing with Organised Labour. We also appreciate the unflinching support of members as we work assiduously to secure improved conditions of service for all workers of public universities in Ghana.
