Twitter sends poop emoji in response to CNN inquiry about dismissed Africa staff
CNN reported on Monday, July 17, 2023, that Twitter has been unresponsive to some of its former employees who were dismissed by the company in December 2022.
All 11 employees from Twitter’s Africa office in Accra were let go after a $44 billion takeover by Elon Musk, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
The dismissed employees negotiated a three-month severance package through their lawyers, but the company has gone silent on the agreement in recent weeks.

CNN’s International Correspondent and host of the African Voices Changemakers and Playmakers series, Larry Madowo, quoted a statement from the lawyer representing the former employees, Carla Olympio, who expressed frustration with Twitter’s lack of communication after violating its own promises and Ghana’s laws during the terminations.
When CNN attempted to seek comments from Twitter via email, they received a terse response, which was a poop emoji.
Larry Madowo shared this revelation with his colleague Rahel Solomon during a news bulletin, confirming that their email to twitter@press.com resulted in the emoji response.
The situation has raised concerns about the company’s treatment of its former employees and the lack of communication and transparency in the negotiation process.
