A tragic incident occurred at the Assin Fosu Masalakyi “Roundabout” when an articulated truck, heavily loaded with wooden boards, struck and killed a pedestrian.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, identified by its registration number AS 5942-10, was traveling at a notably high speed when it approached a sharp curve along the Assin Fosu N8 highway.

However, due to the vehicle’s excessive velocity, it lost balance and toppled over, spilling its entire cargo onto the surrounding area.
Unfortunately, at that very moment, a man was walking on the pedestrian walkway adjacent to the road. The cascading wooden boards tragically fell directly onto him, instantly claiming his life. The severity of the impact left no chance for survival. The incident was a devastating sight for onlookers who were powerless to prevent the unfortunate outcome.
Responding swiftly to the scene, a joint team from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Assin Fosu Police command arrived to assess the situation and provide assistance.
Their primary focus was on recovering the victim’s body, which they successfully retrieved from underneath the weighty timber. The lifeless body was then respectfully transported to the morgue at St. Francis Xavier Hospital.
In the aftermath of the accident, the driver of the ill-fated truck was taken into custody by the police. The authorities made this decision to prevent any potential acts of violence from an enraged crowd and to enable a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
At present, the driver’s identity remains unknown, but his cooperation with the police will be instrumental in shedding light on the causes and potential liabilities associated with the accident.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible and cautious driving, especially when operating large vehicles like articulated trucks.
It also highlights the need for proper adherence to speed limits and the consideration of pedestrian safety. The local community, in mourning the loss of a fellow resident, has called for increased road safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
