Tema Children’s Library land sold to a Chinese man for the construction of a casino – South Dayi MP alleges

The Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has claimed that the land where the Tema Children’s Library, originally built by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has been sold to a private investor.

According to Dafeamekpor’s post on October 12, 2023, he alleges that the Tema Development Company (TDC), led by its managing director, Alice Ofori-Atta, sold the land for the construction of a casino by a Chinese investor. The post included a video showing construction work already underway on the site.

In response, TDC’s Protocol and Administrative Officer, Ian Ocquaye, refuted the MP’s claims, emphasizing that the land in question was given to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in 2012 for a recreational center, and TDC had no involvement since then. He provided correspondence between TDC and the Assembly to support this information.
