Students from Simms Senior High School in Fawoade, located in the Ashanti region’s Kwabre East municipality, were forced to evacuate after a fire broke out in the boys’ dormitory block.

This unfortunate incident occurred on Friday, October 13, 2023, around 11 am while classes were in session.

Thankfully, there were no reported casualties, but three out of the four rooms on the top floor of the one-story dormitory building were engulfed by the fire, destroying everything within them. Each of these rooms typically accommodates 42 students.

The fire service personnel responded quickly, arriving at the scene within five minutes, but the fire had already spread significantly.

According to the Ashanti regional fire PRO, DO3 Peter Addai, the rapid spread of the fire was attributed to the presence of highly flammable materials like mattresses and books in the affected rooms.

Despite their efforts, they managed to prevent the fire from spreading to one room on the top floor and the other four rooms on the ground floor.

Currently, the displaced students will have to temporarily stay with their friends in the unaffected dormitory while school authorities contemplate their next course of action.

The Mampongteng Fire station has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
