Nigeria escape Ghana in 2024 AFCON group stage
The 2024 Africa Cup of Nations group stage draw will not pit the Super Eagles of Nigeria against Ghana. Both teams are in Pot 2 for the draw, along with several other countries.
Pot 1 includes teams like Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt. Pot 3 contains South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania, while Pot 4 comprises Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, Gambia, and Tanzania.

The last time Ghana and Nigeria were in the same AFCON group was in 2006, where Nigeria won 1-0, and Ghana didn’t advance. In their recent meetings, Ghana won three times, with three matches ending in draws, while Nigeria won 12 out of 56 games in all competitions.
The draw will be held on October 12, 2023, in Abidjan, and you can watch it on CAF social media platforms at 19:00 GMT.
