Kenyan police probe church for death of four after fasting

The police in Kenya are investigating the deaths of four individuals who are suspected to have starved to death on the orders of a controversial cult leader.

The leader, Pastor Makenzie Nthenge, reportedly instructed his followers in Kilifi to abstain from food in the hope of attaining heaven quickly.

After receiving a tip-off, the police discovered 15 gravely ill people, but only 11 of them survived after being taken to the hospital.

The police are also investigating reports of a mass grave in a nearby forest.

Last month, the pastor was charged with the deaths of two children whose parents were members of his Good News International Church.

He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

The survivors, including a teenager, are in critical condition due to extreme malnourishment.

Kenya has a history of dangerous and unregulated churches and cults that attract unsuspecting followers.
