Fire guts first floor of building at Bantama

At Bantama, in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti region, a fire has destroyed properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.

On April 2nd, 2023, after midnight, a fire broke out.

All five of the first floor’s rooms were destroyed by the fire.

Ashanti Regional Reporter Elisha Adarkwah of ClassFM was given a description of how the fire began by the landlord of the residence, Madam Alice Addai Kusi.

“I was sound asleep when I overheard someone screaming that the homeowners of this property should wake up because a fire had destroyed your home while you were sound asleep.

The fire had almost consumed the area when Madam Kusi woke up and opened the main road, so one of her children drove to call the fire department, she said.

She claimed that “the fire had spread when they [fire fighters] came.”

ADOII Ben Aidoo Taylor, the Fire Operations Officer at the Komfo Anokye Fire station, also described how his men got to the scene.

“We received word from our divisional control that a fire had started in one of the buildings at Bantama High Street, and the vehicle drove right over to the scene where it was discovered that the second apartment had in fact been completely consumed by the fire.”

He further noted that: “We were able to manage the fire and put the fire out.”

ADOII Taylor however indicated that the cause of fire is still under investigation and reports of the investigation will be revealed to the public when it is ready.
