Elon Musk imposes daily limits on reading posts on Twitter

On a recent Saturday, Twitter encountered a widespread disruption that affected numerous users in various countries. People reported difficulties accessing the platform and experiencing delays in its functionality. The situation drew attention and concern as individuals turned to social media to express their frustrations.

In response to the mounting reports of issues, Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, took to his own Twitter account to address the problem. He acknowledged that the site had implemented temporary limits to combat what he referred to as “extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.” According to Musk, these measures were necessary to ensure the stability and security of the platform.

Musk detailed the imposed limitations, stating that verified accounts were restricted to reading 6,000 posts per day. Meanwhile, unverified accounts faced stricter limitations, allowing them to view only 600 posts each day. Additionally, new unverified accounts were subjected to an even lower cap of 300 posts per day. These restrictions aimed to mitigate the impact of potential abuse and malicious activities on the platform.

However, Musk also indicated that he intended to increase these limits in the near future. He announced plans to raise the daily post allowance to 8,000 tweets for verified users, 800 tweets for unverified accounts, and 400 tweets for newly created unverified accounts. These adjustments were intended to strike a balance between providing a satisfactory user experience and preventing misuse of the platform.

This recent disruption on Twitter was not the first of its kind since Elon Musk assumed ownership. In March, the platform faced a similar and significant outage that affected a substantial number of users. During that incident, over 8,000 individuals reported disruptions, highlighting the scale of the problem. Such service interruptions can have a significant impact on users who rely on Twitter for various purposes, including communication, news updates, and social interactions.

The incidents of disruption and the subsequent response by Elon Musk underscore the challenges faced by social media platforms in ensuring their stability, security, and efficient operation. They also highlight the ongoing battle against abuse and manipulation, which requires continuous monitoring and proactive measures to safeguard the user experience.
