Ashaiman: Key suspects in murder of trooper Imoro Sherrif arrested

Imoro Sherrif, a visitor to Accra from Sunyani, was assassinated in the Ashaiman suburb on Saturday, March 4, 2023, according to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Members of the GAF swarmed into the Greater Accra metropolis around dawn on March 7th.

The Military High Command authorized the military action, according to the GAF, “not to exact revenge for the soldier’s murder, but rather to fish out the culprits of the horrible crime.”

According to the police, the raid led to the arrest of 184 individuals between the ages of 21 and 47. It also stated that these people had since been turned up to the military police, who would then submit them to the Ghana Police Service for investigation and future action.

Residents in Ashaiman said on social media that they were brutalized and interrogated during the aforementioned operation. They distributed unsettling stories and pictures.

We cannot take the laws into our own hands, whether we are legislators or security agencies, said Ashaiman’s Member of Parliament (MP), Ernest Henry Norgbey.

The Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, the Ministry of Defense, and the Military High Command will all visit the Ashaiman community on Thursday, March 16, according to Dominic Nitiwul, the Minister of Defense.

“I will encourage to the people of Ghana to be respectful of people in uniform, it would help all of us,” he said before to the visit.

I won’t say anything else until the committee members and I have visited the location on Thursday and verified everything for ourselves.

Friday, March 10, the Ghana Police Service via Facebook reported that: “…after a week of sustained intelligence-led operation… the key suspects involved in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, the soldier who was found dead at Taifa Ashiaman on 4th March, 2023,” have been arrested.

“Full details of the arrests made by the Police on Thursday, 9th March and at dawn today, 10th March 2023, within Ashaiman and its environs follow…” the post by the Police went on.
