The identification of these customers took place during ECG’s one-week nationwide revenue mobilization exercise, which occurred from May 26th to June 2nd.
Throughout this period, the Accra West region managed to retrieve a total of 535,822 kilowatt-hours (KWh) of electricity, equivalent to the monetary value mentioned earlier.
Ing Emmanuel Akinie, the General Manager of ECG Accra West, commended the field team for their vigilance in uncovering these illegal practices.
He specifically acknowledged the sophistication of the identified illegal activities, which demonstrated the determination of certain customers to avoid paying for the electricity they consumed.
It’s important to note that the Accra West region consists of eight operational districts, which implies that the illegal connections were spread across a significant area.
The successful recovery of funds and electricity indicates the commitment of the ECG and its field team in combating these unlawful practices, ensuring fair revenue collection, and promoting responsible electricity usage in the region.
