Accra Court Jails Ghanaian Footballer 12 Years For Defiling 13-Year-Old Girl
An Accra Circuit Court found a 27-year-old football player guilty of defiling a 13-year-old girl in Mamprobi three different times and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
According to the Ghana News Agency, Richard Mensah was found guilty on three counts of defilement by the court presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann.
The now-convict shared a home with the victim, the complainant, who is a trader and the victim’s sister, and Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor, the head of the prosecution team, testified in court.
On March 11, 2022, Mensah took advantage of the victim when his fiancée was away attending a funeral in Accra’s Akraman neighborhood. He encouraged the victim to help his kids with their homework in his room.

The victim, according to the prosecution, ordered the convict’s children to stay outside while he remained in the victim’s room after helping them with their homework.
Mensah entered the room, undressed the victim, and had sex with her anus and vagina.
“On March 12, 2022, it was claimed that at around 4:00 pm the victim was with Mensah’s kids when he once more asked her into his room where they had intercourse.
The accused called the victim on March 14, 2022, at around 1:00 pm, and requested her to help his girlfriend prepare supper, according to the prosecution.
“The victim complied, and after Mensah’s girlfriend left, the supper was ready.
The GNA quotes the prosecution as saying that Mensah took advantage of the absence of his fiancée to have sex with the victim.
The victim’s sister, who is the complainant, was seeking for her about 9:00 p.m. on the third day of the abuse and discovered her in Mensah’s room, which is what revealed Mensah’s criminal acts. The victim then acknowledged having sex with the football player.
Following a formal report from the victim’s sister to the police, Mensah was apprehended and charged.
