The Board and Management of SECTECH, Koforidua Senior High Technical School, have taken the decision to suspend 85 students indefinitely after an assault on teachers and students at New Juaben Senior High School.
The incident occurred on May 29, 2023, resulting in injuries to the New Juaben SHS chaplain, four students, and a SECTECH student who was partially paralyzed after being struck with a machete. School property, including a parked Eicher bus, was also damaged during the attack.

Upon the arrival of the police to de-escalate the situation, four students from SECTECH were arrested, and the school authorities identified six students believed to be the masterminds behind the attack.
Following an interrogation by the school’s disciplinary committee, all 85 students were suspended based on the decision made by the board.
However, it has been decided that the final year students among the suspended group will still be allowed to sit for their final WASSCE papers.
In addition, the board recommended the demotion of all prefects in the school for their failure to prevent the attack from occurring.
Further investigations are underway, and any students found responsible will be held accountable for the full cost of the damages caused at New Juaben Senior High School.
